SUPPORTED TOPICS THAT QUALIFY FOR CPA
Historical, Housing, Open Space, Recreation

Description:
The Community Preservation Act (CPA), approved in Sunderland as a ballot question on the November 2, 2010 election, creates a dedicated funding source financed by a property tax surcharge and state matching funds for protecting open space, providing affordable and senior housing, preserving historic assets and creating recreational land. As voted, the act imposes a 3% surcharge annually on real estate taxes, which will first appear on the Fiscal 2012 Preliminary and Final Real Estate bills. The Community Preservation Committee will make recommendations for the use of the funds to Town Meeting for its approval.

The CPC has a total of 7 committee seats. Two are appointed by the Board of Selectmen. The remaining 5 are appointed by the boards/committees noted in the list above.
