The TOWN OF SUNDERLAND was incorporated November 12, 1718 and is located at the southern end of Franklin County. It borders the towns of Whately, Deerfield, Montague, Leverett, Amherst and Hadley.
The Town's 2010 census population was 3,684.
Sunderland is 14.78 square miles and its elevation is 137.121 feet above sea level.

SUNDERLAND WATER DISTRICT:
Sunderland Water District is a private Water District and separate from the municipal government operations. For water usage, rates, meter readings or to report a problem call Water Commissioner Fred Laurenitis at 413-665-7685 or 413-537-5030. The Water District meets the third Thursday of the month and meetings are held at the Old Fire Station on Warner Drive, Sunderland. Their Annual Meeting is the first Monday in May. Water Commissioners are: Fred Laurenitis, Mike Wozniakewicz, Francis Thomas. Payments may be dropped in the WATER DISTRICT MAILBOX located in the Town Offices at 12 School Street. However, there is not a Water District Office and individual services are only available by calling the numbers listed above.·

Bus stops are located conveniently throughout town: Plumtree Road and Rt. 116; Sugarloaf estates Apartments on Rt 47; 2 locations on Old Amherst Road, South Main Street; Rt 116 at the Squire Village Square (by Frontier Pizza, etc) south-bound and by Cliffside Apartments on the nortth-bound side. The PVTA services UMASS and a variety of other locations in the northern area of Hampshire County. See their schedules for connections and routes.
